The greatest short, moderate-level, recently opened trip in the Annapurna region is the Mardi Himal trip. The trip starts in Kande (1706 meters) and ends at Upper Viewpoint, which is around 4200 meters above sea level. Ascending into the skies, you will find snow-capped mountains, verdant woods, and ethnic settlements. This will take you far into the Annapurna area, renowned for its abundant, pure natural beauty. Hiking through a varied biodiversity will expose you to the plants and animals of the mountains.
Also, you’ll get to experience some interactions with people from a more rural culture. These routes also lead to thick pine forests, terraced fields, hillside communities, and lovely homesteads. You will be treated to breathtaking views of famous mountain ranges including Hiunchuli, Annapurna, and Machhapuchhre. After traversing ridges, you eventually arrive at the top viewpoint close to a Mardi Himal base camp. Mount Machhapuchhre is seen directly in front of you, providing an amazing vista from the location.
We at Nepal Hiking Team are eager to lead you along this well-known and cherished path. Take part in the Mardi Himal Trek for nine days and experience something promising and unforgettable.
Mardi Himal Trek History and Glory
Mardi Himal is a 5,587-meter-tall peak in the Annapurna region of Nepal that is located next to Machhapuchhare, also known as Fishtail. A relatively new travel route that has gained popularity among both foreigners and native Nepalese people is the Mardi Himal trek.
Speaking of the history of the Mardi Himal journey, mountaineer Basil Goodfellow was the first person to reach the summit in 1961. But the trek wasn’t formally available to hikers until 2012.
A new route was created after 2012 and leads to High Camp (3,550m) via gorgeous cliffs and quaint guesthouses and teahouses. The walk continues to Mardi Himal Base Camp (4,500m) from Upper Viewpoint (4,200m) for those seeking even more excitement.
Beginning in Pokhara, Nepal’s premier tourism destination, the journey winds via the quaint villages of Dhampus and Pothana. It travels to the Mardi Himal base camp at an elevation of 4500 meters after traversing through verdant forests of rhododendron, oak, and bamboo.
You are met with warmth as soon as you arrive at Kathmandu Airport (TIA) and taken to your accommodation. You can explore the energetic city and take in its diverse culture and busy streets, or you can relax in the hotel and get ready for your next adventure.
Traveling to Pokhara starts early. During the picturesque bus ride, you will see verdant farms and the Himalayas. You might stop at neighborhood establishments to sample the cuisine and hospitality of the native Nepalis. As soon as you go to Pokhara, you can enjoy the views of the mountains. You’ll relax in your hotel or take a leisurely stroll by the lake.
We will drive from Pokhara to Pothana to start our trip. After traveling for around 45 minutes to reach Kande, we will hike past Australian Camp. This segment of our journey provides breathtaking vistas and an unparalleled cultural understanding of the local people’s daily life. The route winds through breathtaking scenery as we get closer to Pothana.
We begin our journey through enchanted forests, following a path bordered by a variety of fauna and shaded by a thick canopy. If the weather is right, we can see Annapurna South and Hinchuli from the Pitam Deurali (2142m) village. We feel at one with nature as we ascend slowly into the Himalayan mountains, rejuvenated by the clean mountain air and calming sounds of the forest.
After traveling through lovely forests filled with rhododendron, pine, and other trees, we will arrive to Forest Camp, also called Kokar.
Although the route to High Camp is short today, we will walk at a leisurely pace to allow our bodies to acclimate to the rising altitude. We will climb through the dense trees of Rest Camp and Low Camp (3050m), where glimpses of the beauty of Machhapuchhre and Mardi Himal occasionally appear.
The grandeur of nature surrounds us on our peaceful hike, and the trail’s varied conditions serve as a constant reminder of our connection to this unspoiled area.
We leave the Manjh Danda behind and halt for lunch at Badal Danda (3250m). Calm views are good for the body and the spirit. After that, the route heads into bleak alpine scenery as we get closer to High Camp.
At High Camp, we are encircled by the expansive grandeur of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Machhapuchhre, right in the center of the Himalayan splendor. This will be a day of incredible accomplishment and breathtaking beauty. Spend the night at High Camp.
We’ll head out early before breakfast, enjoying the cool morning air as we climb toward the highlight of the day. The trail leads us to an amazing viewpoint that offers the most breathtaking views of our Mardi Himal Trek, as it beckons us up a ridge.
Even though the trail is occasionally steep and narrow as we hike through grassy pastures, the peaceful warmth of the early morning light permeates the entire experience. Against the backdrop of the rising mountains, we may be lucky enough to see dzo, a stunning cross between yaks and cattle, grazing peacefully as morning breaks.
Sheep and goats graze in these colorful pastures throughout the summer, interspersed with the occasional herder’s cabin. Look out for the vibrant danphe, which is quite impressive in the early morning light. We will arrive at the Upper View Point, a rocky vantage point at around 4,200 meters, after three hours of climbing.
The world opens up in front of us here, revealing stunning vistas of the Annapurna Sanctuary, home to giants like Machapuchare, Hiunchuli, Mardi Himal, and Annapurna I. Here, we’ll pause to soak in the view before making our way back to High Camp for a well-earned breakfast.
We refuel and continue our descent to Badal Danda, bringing with us the memories of the peaceful morning and the breathtaking grandeur of the mountains. Breakfast, this early start today, and everything after are just stages in our trek over the Himalayas that will never be forgotten.
We descend steeply through the farms, passing past the terrace fields and over the suspension bridges to arrive at the settlement of Siding. We feel a great sense of success and introspection after our last walk, thinking back on the amazing days we’ve had among the majestic mountains.
Then it’s a two-hour trip back to Pokhara’s serene embrace.
We board a tourist bus to begin our return trip to Kathmandu. Our previous adventures will mingle with the familiar streets of Kathmandu after our mountain journey, bringing with it a fresh feeling of wonder.
A Nepal Hiking Team representative will pick you up at your accommodation and drive you to the airport around three hours prior to the departure time of your flight. We really hope that your trip to Nepal and your thrilling trek along the Mardi Himal Trek have been enjoyable. It has been a pleasure and an honor to host you, and we hope you will keep us in mind for your next trip to Nepal.
